Groth Vineyards & Winery Napa Valley Chardonnay 2012

$29

New release of a classic California Chardonnay!Long, cool fermentation in a mixture of old and new barrels gives our Chardonnay layers of fruitiness and complexity that result in a wine that is very enjoyable when young or after several years of bottle age. This method of fermentation, in conjunction with whole cluster pressing and "sur lie" aging add layers of toastiness and creaminess to the wine. Together these components meld together harmoniously to create a balanced wine that is both lively and rich in aroma and flavor."

Decent and expected. Green apple, lemon and peach. Gentle brioche and butterscotch. Acidic finish

Saw this on a wine list and tried another bottle. Straw yellow with tropical and stone fruit aromas, slight citrus tang. On the palate ripe juicy pears, sweet red apples and lemon notes with some gentle spice, not overpowering. Well balanced, crisp and still drinking nicely. Medium length ending with mineral notes.

Took me a little while to get back and rate this SB but have to say that I never had a bad bottle of anything that Groth produces. This has terrific grapefruit/apricot notes but a very clean and crisp finish that has a little mineralogy added to keep the fruit in line. Had it with grilled octopus and a salad and oh yeah..it worked!
