Green & Red Vineyards Tip Top Vineyard Zinfandel 2013

$28

This great under the radar Red Zinfandel from Napa Valley is a beauty. Highly recommended. Green & Red Vineyard, named for its red iron soils veined with green serpentine, is located in the steep hills on the east side of Napa Valley. The planting was started in 1972 on ground originally in vineyards in the 1890's. The vineyards are a small percentage of the 200-acre property, which ranges in elevation from 900 to 2,000 feet. The Tip Top Vineyard is located at 1700 ft in elevation and faces northeast.  The soils are red and rocky. Red raspberry/currant/blackberry/laurel lead to a lively finish laced with ground black pepper. Brix26 Inside Scoop:  Green & Red Zinfandel has been on the wine list at Berkeley's famous Chez Panisse Restaurant since the inaugural vintage.

The 2013 Tip Top Syrah is delightful wine. It took only minutes to open to full body and flavor. A thoughtful gift from co-worker.

Good all around wine. Dry with pleasant spiciness. Very well balanced. No discernable berry or fruit. Goes well with meat. Might not be the best with really spicy food. Definitely will purchase again.
