Goldeneye (Duckhorn Vineyards) Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2016

$49.99

Duckhorn's Goldeneye is a beautiful Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley that should be on the short list for any Pinot lover.  Get the new vintage before the ratings come out! 94 Points Brix26:  "Always one of our favorite Pinots, the 2016 knocks it out of the park.  From a stellar vintage, its rich and distinctive, with complex, concentrated black cherry, wild berry, savory spice and fresh earth scents. The tannins are rich and mouthcoating, yet the fruit pours through. Drink now through 2022."

Tight, very tight consider it’s 2016 vintage Took almost 2 hours to open up Which is a good sign, Lot of cooked fruit, balance, and juicy fruit palate

From a 220 Acre Anderson Valley Estate. Cooler part of the AV. Higher elevation and closer to the coast. Beautiful aromatics. Red cherry and rose water. A nice example of the style.

Excellent front a little flat on the finish. Could use a boost in acidity.

Not bad, a little on the sweeter side. Full bodied, jammy for a Pinot Noir. Good with a steak, or even duck or lamb.

More full bodied than most Pinot Noir. Tannins soften second day. Very good.

This was my very favorite wine for over a decade. But I never have it because it's so expensive. This is the first time I've had it in probably 7 years. And I was underwhelmed. So sad. A bit shaper than I remember it, a little less complex. Oak but only way after you've swallowed. Overall, can't say it's a favorite anymore and thus can't justify the price. Bummer.
