Petite Sirah is one of our favorite unheralded red varietals, and Girard consistently makes one of the best in Napa Valley. On the nose we see blackberry compote, figs and toasted spices reminiscent of the holidays. The palate is starting to express its dark fruit character accented with notes of plum, cranberry and toasty oak notes and hints of hazelnuts. The wine will benefit with some cellar time allowing the bright acidity to integrate with the fruit & oak character. Drink 2014-20120.

This checks a lot of boxes when it comes to a stellar Tuesday night bottle... under $30... high quality producer... high alcohol... Napa Valley... and straightforward in its approach, but enough complexity to satisfy the curious. It’s sourced from two Napa vineyards, one with century old vines in Calistoga and another on the backside of Howell Mountain in the hills of Pope Valley. Ripe blueberry with a bramble edge that hints at jam without being over the top. While the fruit takes center stage, there are layers of coffee, vanilla, tea, and cedar, with a chewy grip on the palate.

Sourced from old vine plantings at Godward Vineyard in the Calistoga region as well as Juliana and Calla Lilly Vineyard in the Pope Valley region of Napa. 78% Petite Sirah and 22% Zinfandel. Dark red, purplish at the rim. Nice smell reminiscent of blueberries and cassis with a subtle touch of vanilla. Juicy dark fruit, easy-going and well-balanced. Fresh fruity medium-length finish. 2013 vintage, abv 14,5%, 7600 cases produced.

Wow! Stellar wine for the price. Full, inky and bold upfront, the wine never reaches the point of over-saturation of either fruit, oak or tannin. Just a lot of character with a lot of harmony. Buy, buy, buy this wine.

Dense and concentrated with rich and defined aromas of coffee, meat, dark berries, chocolate and flowers. Very soft and plush on the palate. Always enjoy this varietal especially one this balanced

Well- made wine. Had it with smoked short ribs. Stood up well; firm tannins, beautiful fruit, balanced. No heat whatsoever. Impressive PS.

More balanced than I was expecting. Blueberry, coffee, leather and cedar on the palate. Enough acidity to round it out. Long, tannic finish with a bit of a vegetal note to it.

Girard 2013 Petite Sirah at 14.5% is kicking it!!!! I could drink this entire bottle by myself. The color is not opaque but darker than most sirahs. It is a petite grape so this is expected. The bouquet is lavender and lilac. The initial palate is blueberry, blackberry, and dark cherry. Then comes the chocolate with a buttery smooth finish leaving your tongue very dry. What a great wine! Fantastic job guys. Cheers to Girard vineyards.
