Ghost Block Estate Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

$64.99

Ghost Block is the  latest newcomer to the Napa Valley Cult Cabernet scene! Limited. 94 Points Brix26:  "The 2016 Ghost Block Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits the typical distinctive flavors of Ghost Block and the Rock Cairn vineyard. Finesse oriented with an elegant balance and structure. Bright floral aromatics, such as rose petals and tobacco. A full-bodied cabernet that attacks with loads of dark berry fruits, cocoa and nutmeg. The palate is supported by the lasting finish of black cherries and coffee." Nestled on a gently sloping knoll, Ghost Block vineyard is named in honor of Napa's pioneer winemakers who rest in a tiny 150 year old cemetery on the north edge of Yountville - the epicenter of Napa Valley. Graced with perfect drainage and sunny exposure, Ghost Block Vineyard is a jewel, an heirloom, passed down through a single family for over 100 years. Coveted by celebrity winemakers, the fruit from this and nearby vineyards has been the cornerstone of many of Napa's "Cult Wines". The secret is out. Production is very limited.

Aromatic. Plum, brandied cherry with a background of tobacco. Medium bodied. Good balance. A good Napa cab that you can drink now. Will be in it’s prime, 2024-28.

Time to get my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a delicious one from Napa Valley. Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim. Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet cherries, cedar, leather, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, dark chocolates, light alcohol and spices. Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, cedar, vanilla, coffee, toast, peppercorn, light alcohol, dark chocolates and pencil lead. Long finish with round tannins, tangy cranberries and red chili pepper. This is a very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Nicely balanced with mild complexity and a great mouthfeel. A very nice sipping wine, and good with food too. Ripe, but not overwhelming with fruit. Gentle and restraint. Very enjoyable by itself, with a tangy and spicy finish, which is interesting. Wine Enthusiasts 92 points. Wine Spectator 93 points. Drinking nicely already, but still young. I would love to revisit this in 3 years. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly. I paired it with cheeses, crackers and olives. A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. Aged for 24 months in French oak barrels (60% New). 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $75.
