The young vine block from the cooler Keefer Ranch site gives the wine blend verve and freshness while the Floodgate Vineyard adds depth and richness. Both vineyards are planted from the Dijon Clone 95 the "Old Wente" selection, which makes some of California's best Chardonnays.  It posseses a layered texture accenting the wines natural fruit, minerality and floral character.  A small-production gem to snap up while its available.

Last night the wine of the evening we opened the 2013 Failla Sonoma Coast Chardonnay from Napa, California. On the nose there is beautiful notes of citrus, lemon, yellow apple, honeydew melon, white peach, vanilla, creme brulee, apricot and good minerality. On the palate there is lemon, melon, white peach, honeysuckle, minerality and crushed gravel. This is a wonderfully medium bodied wine with a rich vibrant mouthfeel and great balance medium + acidity that has a long citrus crushed gravel finish. I am not a big Chardonnay fan but I truly enjoyed this wine from Failla. Let us have a great weekend doing what we love to do, drink wine. Please be safe and continued good health. Nostrovia!

Very "lemony". Lemon peel and lemon juice. Likely due to the high acidity for a California Chardonnay.

Given my proclivities for Burgundy close to the Beaune this is an exceptionally Californian discovery -both sapid, textural and fragrant. Keen to try more from these folk.

A real sense of style and elegance without being a twiggy wine. Nice work.

Bright citrus, Meyer lemon, tart green apple and then the faintest touch of creamy peach and cotton candy.
