New release from cult Pinot producer Evening Land. 93 Points Brix26: "The 2013 Willamette Valley Pinot offers spicy cherry and raspberry aromas, complemented by white pepper and fresh rose notes. With flavors of black cherry cola and sassafras, the palate is lively and focused, and finishes with earthy, dusty tannin and a delicacy to the cherry and floral flavors. Drink now through 2021."

Earthy with dried black cherry flavors. Polished for the price. I definitely like this better than the last time I had it.

Tonight's wine is a Pinot Noir from Oregon the 2013 Evening Land. On the nose I get pomegranate, red raspberry, cranberry, hints of minerality and charcoal. On the palate the cranberry comes forward in a big way with sour cherries, dried herbs and violet notes. I get medium acidity, medium tannins and a nice round mouth feel. This Pinot I purchased for $22.99.

I’m not sure what inspired me to rate the 2011 vintage a perfect 10 a couple of years ago, but this is still undoubtedly the pinnacle of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, which puts it in firmly in the running for best Pinot Noir worldwide.

Was crazy tart on open (maybe a bit cold) with aggressive fruit. After 20 in the glass it reminds me of wild blueberry, mulled cherry, and cranberry. Paired exceptionally well a duck breast glazed in thyme-honey and smashed duck fat potatoes with shallots and Gruyere.
