98+ Points - limited Fantastic new Cabernet releases from Dunn, one of Napa Valley's pioneer wineries. Limited. 96 Points Decanter Magazine: "An authoritative, intense wine with a lovely chassis of fine but firm tannins, underpinned by vibrant acidty: quintessential Dunn Howell Mountain. Let it sleep for a decade to reveal its potential complexity. Drinking Window 2024-2055." 94 Points Robert Parker: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is still in barrel and looks to be a 25- to 35-year wine. It is much softer than one normally expects from the old classic vintages of Randy Dunn, but the son seems to be trying to build more approachability into the wines without sacrificing any of their sheer concentration and extract. Blue and black fruits, earth, truffle notes, camphor and creosote are all present in this big, juicy, succulent mountain Cabernet Sauvignon that should be approachable young, hit its peak in 10-15 years and last 25-30.... ...This iconic winery has some pretty stunning Cabernets for those with patience and cold cellars. Their estate on Howell Mountain now extends to 34 acres of vines. Randy Dunn’s son, Mike, is now running the show and may be picking slightly riper than his dad would have done."

Rim to rim color density. Red and black cherries poke through cedar and sweet tobacco on the nose with dark chocolate chunks, plum, prune and date, toasted sesame, cinnamon, rose petal, and cardamom. Chewy tannins that roll satin-smooth initially, then cassis, black currant and licorice flip the script. Graphite and blackberry frame dark chocolate and mocha-tobacco, oak and black bread. #dunn #dunnvineyards #howellmountain #howell #napa #angwin #cabernet #cabernetsauvignon #cab #cabsauv #2014 #2014napa

Superb. Ordinarily I would not open a Dunn so young, but we served this at a tasting yesterday. Not a crime to Open now but better if you can wait. Classic Dunn.

It’s been about a year since my last bottle of the 14 Howell. Comments remain the same. Even with a brief 30 min decant it’s drinking well. Tannins softening nicely, fruit still ripe and strong, well balanced. Will aim to keep trying a bottle each year and see how it evolves.

Dark inky black almost. Black fruit. First bottle of the Howell Mtn in a while. Just a quick open bottle decant, drinking incredible. Super smooth fine tannins. Lovely balance of ripe black fruit, black cherry. Toblerone. Great mouthfeel and lovely finish. The ‘14s are starting to hit their stride. Really good.
