One of California's most popular Merlots - get the new release while it's still available. 92 Points Wine Spectator: "Outstanding;a wine of superior character and style Plush and rich-tasting, with finely interwoven flavors of dark cherry, plum tart and blackberry accented by cocoa powder notes.” The Duckhorn 2016 Napa Valley Merlot is one of the finest Merlots we've ever tasted. Blended to offer the complexity and balance of a young wine, while embodying the diversity of the whole Napa Valley appellation. This wine is medium-bodied and balanced with a smooth entry, integrated soft tannins, and a long finish. The aroma is lifted with raspberry, red currant, blueberry, cherry cola, and delicate spice. The flavors are polished with blackberry, plum, black cherry, toast, and a hint of herb. If you are a die-hard Cabernet lover this is a Merlot for you.

If you talk Merlot it’s either: better or not as good as Duckhorn. And only the greats are worthy as better. The ‘16 is deep and long. But needed lots of air to open new dimensions (second night was best). I’ll try to wait about 5 years for the next bottle (nah).

I WILL drink a fucking Merlot (if it’s Duckhorn). Dark, ripe, plummy fruit, dark roasted herbs, and deep gravelly-ness. Very clingy and savory. Great purity and length. I have missed out by not buying good Cali Merlot for a long time.

A pre-Mothers day meal that included an experiment of smoked fish and this was one of the two bottles we decided to pair. While it may not have matched the rub spices exactly, this bottle rarely (if ever) is a poor choice. A classic that we will keep having in the future.
