Doubleback Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

$149.99

Doubleback Winery is owned by former NFL Quarterback Drew Bledsoe, fulfilling a longtime aspiration that would allow him to combine his passion for fine wine and the love of the Walla Walla Valley, his hometown. previous vintage 95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon (90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% each of Malbec and Merlot) comes from a handful of sites in the Walla Walla Valley and spent 23 months in 67% new French oak. Classic, old-school notes of blackcurrants, leafy tobacco, earth, saddle leather, and spicy herbs gives way to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with notable balance, a great mid-palate, ripe yet building tannins, and a great finish. This pure, clean, classic Cabernet will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for 20 years or more. It's beautifully done... ...Owned by NFL star Drew Bledsoe, these wines are made by Josh McDaniel, who was previously at Figgins Family before moving into the head winemaking role at Doubleback. This small family-run operation has four estate vineyards, all in Walla Walla, and they produce gorgeous, complex, classically styled Bordeaux blends."

Like cracking open an ashen stone to find dark exotic spices, a dusting of cocoa, dried mint and black cherries, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon sets off all of the aromatic pleasure sensors. This is velvety, with dense textural waves of black raspberry and blackberry offset by notes of dark, dark chocolate and sour citrus. This tapers off with incredible length, precision and a mentholated freshness that adds lift through the structured finale. The 2019 is a vintage of Doubleback to lose in the cellar. Bravo.

This was fantastic. Silky smooth but still chewy and meaty. Layers of flavor. Long finish. I’ll try to bring one back east when I’m better. Hugh
