Doubleback Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

$109.99

Doubleback Winery is owned by former NFL Quarterback Drew Bledsoe, fulfilling a longtime aspiration that would allow him to combine his passion for fine wine and the love of the Walla Walla Valley, his hometown. 96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "There are two Cabernet Sauvignon releases from this estate. Looking at the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon first, it checks I as 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot that was aged 23 months in new and once-used French oak. This gorgeous, full-bodied effort has a wonderful sense of purity and balance as well as classic notes of cassis, blueberries, graphite, charcoal, chocolate, and lead pencil shavings. It's one of the top wines in the vintage and will keep for 20-25 years or more. It's a wine that builds slowly with time in the glass, so give it a solid decant if drinking anytime soon."

Medium to dark garnet/purple to the edges with a nose of red/black plum with earth & oak. In the mouth starts smooth & medium bodied but still quite acidic after 10 mins in glass. Will wait- another 20 mins and acidity tempered and much better with still mild tannins. Plums and maybe blackberry, earth & oak. On the drier side- more air & food should make it great!

Zoom event with Drew Bledsoe and Josh McDaniels. Vertical from ‘07, ‘14, ‘15, ‘16, ‘17, ‘17 estate, and ‘18. All were exceptionally smooth and silky with good depth of fruit. Notes on the ‘17: 87% CS, 7% Merlot, 6% petite Verdot. Tobacco and raspberry on the nose, blackberry, raspberry and oak on the plate with a long fruity finish. The least earthy of the bunch tonight. Still young, will benefit from additional age.
