New release from Schrader Cellars, Napa's most sought-after producer. Back by popular demand following an unfathomable three year pause, Fred Schrader’s Double Diamond Cabernet is now available. Double Diamond, from the producers of Schrader, opens with layered, intriguing aromas of black currants, dark cherries, blackberry, cherry compote, toast and oak spice. The notes of herbs, pine cone and dried earth. In the mouth, the palate is rich and juicy, bursting with big, rich flavor. In 2000, Fred Schrader launched Double Diamond, just two years after he founded Schrader Cellars in 1998, as part of his ongoing mission to make the most exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon that Napa Valley could offer. These wines, as you know, are crafted by renowned winemaker, Thomas Rivers Brown, who has remarkably led Schrader Cellars to an unprecedented record of twenty four 100-pt. scores during their 18-year partnership.

It’s a decent wine. But for $70? Nope

Considering the price-point this really is just ok for me. Herbaceous notes, some cassis, dark plum. Fruit forward on the palate, not much tannin for me on this vintage and zero acid. Very short and unmemorable finish. Bit of a pop and drop. If this was $40 it would be a steal, hovering $80 expect more. Sorry this just didn’t do it for me. 14.5%

Our fourth of 4 wines of the meet the meat event. Always a big fan of Napa CS’s. This is a big wine that will show much better in 10 years. Never have followed Schrader but need to put them on the list.

PnP’d. Inky color. Pretty one dimensional but deep and chewy. Dark fruit and ample baking spices with some oak. Very young obviously and needs like a decade plus in the cellar.
