Dominus Estate Napanook Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

$69.99

Dominus' second label, the Napanook is a great opportunity to try the Dominus magic at a fraction of the price.  Drink this beauty while the Dominus is aging in the cellar. 95 Points James Suckling:  "Gorgeous aromas of sweet tobacco, iodine and oysters. Blackcurrants, too. Subtle. Medium to full body, elegant and refined tannins, and yet there's also delicious, understated complexity. Savory. A joy to drink now, but this will improve with age." 94 Points Wine Enthusiast: "From the producer’s Yountville estate, this blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc is dusty with thyme, stone and black pepper flavors and leathery with tannin. Concentrated and structured, it further shines with black currant and tobacco notes that give it a distinct herbal undertone. Editors’ Choice." Robert Parker: "...Christian Moueix’s Dominus Estate continues to be one of California’s leaders in turning out gorgeously elegant, complex and long-lived wines. A magnum of 1991 from my cellar tasted several weeks before I left for California was pure perfection and evidence that at 25 years old, before he had built his stunning winery, great quality was coming from this iconic vineyard. The 2015s are certainly going to be one of his all-time great vintages, rivaling 2013, 2012, 2007, 2002, 2001 and his earliest classics, such as 1994 and 1991."

The 2014 Napanook is, once again, a very serious wine. Dark, powerful and brooding, the 2014 possesses remarkable intensity packed into its mid-weight frame. Smoke, scorched earth, tobacco, graphite, savory herbs and menthol add to an impression of gravitas. The 2014 doesn't quite have the depth or power of the 2013, but it leans in that direction. I would give it a few years in bottle to settle down. This is an impressive showing. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2016)

Very hot smell, strawberry, red fruit, ripe cherry. Very long lasting flavor and also quite hot. Went extremely well with our steak! Got to have this on our thanksgiving and my dad purchased it. Was his most expensive wine purchase so may have increased due to the event

We had the 2014 Vintage on 10/6-7/21. A real good full bodied, New World wine. Tastes of black current, plum, leather and a savory spice. Bordeaux meets Napa.
