Domaine Serene Evenstad Reserve Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2012

$64.99

One of Oregon's most coveted producers of Pinot Noir in the Willamette Valley's rare Reserve Pinot Noir. previous vintage 95 Points Wine Spectator: "A vibrant, focused and deliciously complex red, offering raspberry, cherry, cinnamon, mocha and subtle sage notes rolling through the long and expressive finish. Deft. Drink now through 2020." Wine Enthusiast:  "Dark, full, generous and ripe to the far edge of elegance, this powerful Pinot is saturated with black fruits, annoted with fennel, pepper, smoke and espresso, the rich and varied flavors rolling right through a lush midpalate and on into a gently fading finish.  Retasted over 24-48 hours, it continued to evolve and develop additional nuances.  A wine that can develop like a fine Burgundy to cellar for a decade or more."

I'm on location at #IPNC this year, and have been invited to attend a private tasting at Domaine Serene with winemaker, Erik Kramer. The 2012 Evenstad is, like all of their wines, a study in refinement and purity, with a deep inner perfume of rose petals, dust, forest floor and spice underpinned by alpine strawberries and red forest berries. Pitch-perfect acidity and just the right amount of toast to frame it—spicier notes re-emerge on the finish, with a touch of white pepper adding lift and complexity.

Truly marvelous. So clean and well-rounded. I served it with a complicated meal; lots of different tastes and styles. It was great with everything. And—most of all—delicious.
