Delamotte Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne NV

$49.99

This is 100% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, rich, with a surprisingly delicate quality, round yet mineral. It features a rose-like nose with citrus and ginger, and in the mouth hints of biscuit and breadcrust. Fantastic with rich, creamy seafood dishes especially. 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:  (made from fruit grown in the grand crus Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant and Avize): "Light, green-tinged gold. High-pitched lemon, lime, talc and quinine aromas show very good clarity. Very dry, but there's impressive heft and body to its juicy orchard fruit and bitter citrus zest flavors. The dry finish displays very good energy and mineral-driven persistence."

Had the 15 Salon two-weeks ago. After, I had this cuvée and their 2018 Delamotte. Not really a fair order. So tonight, thought I’d give it one. Been awhile since I enjoyed this cuvée. In the rare case, Salon does not declare a vintage, this is where that fruit goes. So…when & if, buy this n/v. Nice mousse, crispy, racy acidity. Lime pulp with zest, lemon pulp, green/golden apple, white stone fruit, some yellow peach, kiwi, tropicals, frothy, steamed whole milk, caramel, vanillin to vanillin, excellent white spice, palate penetrating volcanic minerals, limestone marl, brilliant chalky powder with bits, some yeastiness, baguette crust, brioche, toffee & butterscotch notes, almost a sweetish herbaceous quality, daffodils, white flowers set in greens with a nicely rounded, knitted, balanced, spot on tension and a 90 second, elegant finish that long sets on spice & volcanic.

The House of Delamotte is the fifth-oldest Champagne house in the region, founded in 1760, with small production of 25,000 cases annually. One of Champagne's best-kept secrets, they are the sister winery of the legendary House of Salon. Aromas of fruit and chalk start off and carries to the palate with crisp stone fruit flavors, lively acidity and gentle bubbles. Lingering finish ending with a big dose of nicely balanced chalky mineral character.
