Rare Rare! The Darioush 2013 Darius II Cabernet Sauvignon is Darioush's most exclusive release. Ripe, lush and profoundly concentrated, yet epitomizing the stylistic profile that's signature Darioush. 96 Points Robert Parker: "Once again, the top wine in the vintage for Darioush is their 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Darius II. This is a stunner and compelling, a powerful, classic Cabernet Sauvignon with an opaque purple color and notes of incense, graphite, crème de cassis and blackberry. It is long and rich, with an extra dimension compared to the 2014 version. This wine is accessible now, but should be even better after 3-4 years of cellaring and last 25 or more years....This was a good opportunity to contrast the difference between 2013 and 2014. As the following notes attest, 2014s are soft, luscious and delicious, but there is just that extra gear and dimension to the 2013s, but also more structure. Winery Notes: "2013 Darius II Cabernet Sauvignon echoes the remarkable seamlessness of its predecessors while expressing the vibrancy and generous fruit characteristic of the 2013 vintage. The wines predominantly hillside provenance is revealed in layers of blackberry liqueur, licorice and espresso, with savory, energetic notes of Darjeeling tea and dried orange peel adding further complexity. The soft, ripe and well-integrated tannins add plushness and texture; Darius II finishes long and persistent with notes of incense, sweet oak, and dried herbs.

A few wines from last week’s 4th Friday event! In line with their typical style, this was rich and decadent but had an incredibly long finish to it. Dark chocolate, blue and black fruits and baking spices on the nose. Dense on the palate with some added licorice, baked plum and a nice balance of oak without being overwhelming. Fine grain tannins. Nice.

Deep and dark ruby red. Very young but powerful nose. Pencil shavings, cassis, sweet spices, cinnamon, dark cocoa, blackberries and dark gravel. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Seems like a touch of chalk with lots of black fruits, spices, and bit of minerality. Long and lingering finish. Drink from 2018 till 2038. (93+)
