Darioush Caravan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$49.99

One of the best California Cabs under $50 we've found this year.  The 2012 Darioush Caravan Cabernet Sauvignon is a plush bordeaux-style blend that epitomizes the stylistic profile thats signature Darioush. Robert Parker: "A terrific bargain in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, this blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and the rest equal parts Petit Verdot and Malbec offers a subtle toasty oak note intermixed with espresso roast, chocolate, black currants, and black cherries. It possesses soft, velvety tannins, medium to full body, and beautiful purity, texture, and length. Approachable now, it should evolve easily for 15 or more years. This is a sleeper of the vintage."

Rich and full bodied with enough residual tannin to stand up to the 30 oz. porterhouse at Bern's Steak House. Restaurant price about 2X retail.

Deep scarlet violet glass with translucent scarlet rim. Medium nose of blackberry jam, clove, eucalyptus against a subtle background of dry tobacco and leather. Medium full bodied tart acid hit to the palate of dark fruits, pepper and cocoa. Finishes long with big soft chalky tannins. Well balanced wine with good structure. At $37.99 USD, a little dear but still good for the occasional splurge or accompaniment to your rich dish.

I thought this was lovely. Had never had this from Darioush but really enjoyed it. Very soft tannins and balanced wine.

Dark fruit and oak. Solid value. 2012s are drinking well now, but have at least 5 good years left.
