Daou Vineyards Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

$64.99

94 points - new discovery                      Daou is making some of the best Cabernets in Paso Robles today. Highly recommended. 94 Points Robert Parker: "The Daou 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a barrel sample of free-run Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Petit Verdot (25%), matured for 16 months in 50% new oak. Still youthfully coiled, it hints at blueberry fruit with swirls of graphite, soy sauce and exotic spices. The medium-bodied palate is velvety in texture, savory in character and finishes with uplifting acidity. This is due to be bottled in May 2022." 93 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Daou Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a soft, supple, incredibly sexy Cabernet that brings ample cassis and blue berry fruits as well as some vanilla oak, white flowers, and spice-like aromas and flavors. It will compete with any number of impressive Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons and is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a great finish." In the golden, oak-studded hills of Paso Robles' fabled west side, not far from William Randolph Hearst's magnificent castle, there is a man with a Homeric vision. His name is Daniel Daou and he is devoting his life and every imaginable resource to creating, first and foremost, a Cabernet Sauvignon that rivals the very best in the world. Gracefully perched atop a stunning promontory at 2,200 feet, the DAOU Spanish Colonial style winery is embraced by a tangible serenity. This kind of synergy happens rarely: superlative climate and terroir, super intensive vineyard culture, and cutting edge viticultural practice. You're more likely to find it in Bordeaux than Central California.

New vintage of this always reliable favorite. Ten consistent vintages - that makes for a great house wine. Widely available at supermarkets and Costco these days. Great cab for 20 bucks.

Fine, but I was a bit disappointed after its great rating and relatively high price. Too jammy and lacks the dry peppery edge I like.

Fine to serve at a large gathering but otherwise not terribly noteworthy.
