Dana Estates Onda Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$159

95 points - limited                              One of Napa Valley's new cult producers Dana Estates 2012 Onda Cabernet is a beauty. Limited. 95 Points Robert Parker: "The largest case production is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Onda, which is essentially their second wine culled from the top lots of Lotus, Hershey, Helms and Crystal Springs. It’s a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot (888 cases) that spent 20 months in 70% new French oak. The wine is deep ruby/purple, exhibits crème de cassis notes with some incense and subtle charcoal. It’s medium to full-bodied, silky smooth and clearly meant to be the wine that most consumers would want to drink earlier than the more saturated and denser single-vineyard wines. This should drink nicely for at least another 10-15 years." 95 Points James Suckling: "Blueberry and mineral give this an almost slate character. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and fabulous length. Very, very fine. This is the finest Onda ever. Hints of hazelnut and chocolate. Pure definition of the vineyards of Dana. Better in 2017."

Graphite and coffee, coco and rich black fruits. Will continue to improve with a lot more age.

Thanks Steve this was a real treat! Super dark purplish ruby red. Some light tobacco and red cherries on the nose, still pretty tight. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Great structure and backbone coated with red cherries, raspberries, and dark cocoa leaves. Slightly dry, with a little minerality in the long finish. This is still a baby that will only get better with more time! Drink till 2034. 92+

Open and drank over 3 hours, should have decanted. Last glass was the best. Nice blend of mountain and valley floor fruit.
