Cobb Emmaline Ann Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

96 Points - limited                                     New release from Cobb, one of California's most sough-after new Pinot producers.  Only 150 cases made. 96 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2017 Pinot Noir Emmaline-Ann Vineyard is another stellar wine in this range. Bold, rich and explosive, the 2017 possesses tremendous depth and nuance. Black cherry, plum, menthol, licorice and sage infuse the 2017 with tons of character. The 2017 is marked by a real sense of vertical energy and statuesque beauty. The 50% whole clusters are not especially evident. What a wine!" Planted by David Cobb in 1989, the Emmaline Ann Vineyard was one of the first vineyards on the far Sonoma Coast. Just three miles from Bodega Bay, at an elevation of 1,200 feet, Coastlands hangs high above the Pacific. It’s a challenging site, with tiny yields year after year, but it has also emerged as a benchmark for what can be achieved with Pinot Noir on the far coast.  The  2012 Coastlands Vineyard Pinot was honored as “Top 100 Wines” by Jon Bonné and the San Francisco Chronicle, while the 2007 vintage named one of the “Top 10 Sonoma Coast Pinots” by Forbes.

Rich black fruits and oak on the nose. Light body, good acidity but balancing peppery tannins, a good amount of fruit and some minerality too. Lots going on and not just a fruit bomb from CA.
