Cirq Bootlegger's Hill Pinot Noir 2015

$199.99

Rare new release from winemaker Michael Browne of Kosta Browne! CIRQ is a single vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir from Michael Browne, winemaker and co-owner of Kosta Browne. Limited. Aromatics: Piercing notes of deep cranberry, ripe raspberry, dark cherry and light notes of baking spice.  Flavors: Ripe pomegranate, rhubarb, raspberry and deep cranberry with hints of dark cherry and slight underbrush. Mouth feel: The wine immediately surrounds the tongue and deeply saturates the palate. It's as if a light velvet blanket was thrown onto a bed with thin, soft pillows slowly settling down into each crevasse providing the ultimate comfort. The wine then starts to expand to each side of the mouth slowly disappearing on the distant edges as if it were going to another place but not dying while all along continuing to hold on the mid palate.

My last bottle of Cirq. I think the quality is extremely high, but the evolution and secondary market is hard to justify when similar priced wines (ex: Marcassin) are in a different realm. This straddles bright and moderately lean Sonoma coast Pinot with ripe OR style pinot. When compared to Michael Browne’s Kosta Browne wines, its got a more elegant profile while retaining the rich fruit. Plenty of ripe cherry, black cherry, potpourri, and sandalwood aromatics. The palate here retains a lot of freshness to go along with the spiced rhubarb, black pepper, and maple drizzled black cherries. Acidity is very vibrant and keeps this wine afloat. Pretty? Yes. Do I see this getting better? Not necessarily, just different.

WNH event number 3...new world Pinot. Such a treat to experience the many different variations of Pinot! All done in the name of research as we knew it would be young. Tight but flavor packed already. Maple and cinnamon rich notes out of the glass. Big on the palate. Extracted black and blue fruit but the acidity keeps it from being flabby. Give this a few years and it will likely be incredible. Thanks for opening @Bill Bender .

Nice new world Pinot. Definitely not worth the price, but when offered by someone else happy to try it. Fruit is pretty extracted and almost exuberant, but quite mouth filling and tasty. Lacking in acid on the finish though.

Tremendous wine, price is over rated as a factor for evaluation. Drink them ‘til gone, then savor the memory
