Chimney Rock Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

$99.99

A classic Stags Leap District Cabernet! Chimney Rock's 134-acre estate lies in the heart of the Stags Leap District, the first viticultural area in the United States to be approved based on the distinctiveness of its soils. With 28 distinctive vineyard blocks showing an array of different aspects, soil types, clones and rootstocks, the vineyard provides a diversity of flavors that are artfully blended to capture the holistic representation of the estate Cabernet Sauvignon. 91 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): “The Chimney Rock 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious. Floral, spice and savory notes add brightness to a core of succulent dark cherry and plum fruit. Fresh and inviting with mid-weight structure, the 2018 has a lot to offer in an easygoing style that will require minimal cellaring."

Juicy with ripe black cherries and black plums. Black pepper, dark chocolate and cedar are also present.

It’s good, but I could get a better wine for the amount of money this cost. There’s not much structure, and is a very safely made wine. My wife bought it because she said “I thought it was expensive and it had an ugly label.” We both tasted it blind, and guessed it was a $20-$30 bottle.

NOSE: Cassis, blueberries, violet, graphite, raspberry leaf, leather, a tiny dash of molasses, mountain stream. TASTE: fruity cassis and blueberry and blackberry and a little sweet molasses, plum, smooth tannins come across as bitter stone on the finish. A tiny bit of mint. Good! 91-92. Not worth the price (to me), and simpler than I remembered, but good stuff.

Deep red fruits - rich and earthy. Full bodied and not as spicy as I anticipated. Lovely and flavorful.

Dark red fruits, soft tannins, chocolate and coffee on the nose and palate. This should pair well with grilled lamb!
