A classic Stags Leap District Cabernet! Chimney Rock's 134-acre estate lies in the heart of the Stags Leap District, the first viticultural area in the United States to be approved based on the distinctiveness of its soils. With 28 distinctive vineyard blocks showing an array of different aspects, soil types, clones and rootstocks, the vineyard provides a diversity of flavors that are artfully blended to capture the holistic representation of the estate Cabernet Sauvignon. 91 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): “Chimney Rock's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is beautiful, precise and impeccably balanced. Floral top note and bright red cherry/plum fruit are very nicely delineated. Medium in body and gracious, the 2016 is super expressive today. The 25% Merlot adds mid-palate softness and helps in giving the wine a good bit of early appeal. What a pretty wine it is.”

This is a good Stag’s Leap Cabernet, 75% cab 25% merlot. It is a quality wine but it seems to be a little closed off. Even after an hour in the decanter. The oak comes thru predominantly on the nose. Black fruit and licorice on the palate. Not worth the price in my honest opinion. You can drink wines that are half the price and taste way better and are a better example of Cabernet Sauvignon. If you have this in your cellar, keep it until 2026.

Sommelier at Shula’s hooked us up with this last bottle they had. Always a good bet with lovely soft tannin and blackberry current fruit forward.
