95 Points - limited reserve cab Chateau Montelena's exclusive Estate Cabernet is one of the best Cabs this winery has ever produced. Try this beautiful Napa Cabernet while its still available. 95 Points Stephen Tanzer (IWC): "Bright medium ruby. Medicinal aromas of blue fruits, minerals, and spices, lifted by an herbal nuance. Rich and dense but with a powerful spine of acidity giving terrific cut to the black fruit and spice flavors. Extremely primary, energetic wine with surprisingly suave tannins for its size and outstanding savory persistence. It's hardly surprising that Bo Barrett plans to bottle this vintage late--probably not until the end of the year. This should evolve in bottle for 20 years or more." 95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Montelena's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is unctuous, deep and concentrated. A wine of gravitas and power, the 2013 possesses remarkable textural richness, with a demi-glace like sweetness that is unusual for this wine and that lends an exotic feel throughout. The tannins are nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit, but they are very much present. Patience will be key. Iron, smoke, tar and licorice are some of the many notes that infuse the voluptuous finish+."

#AgedWineTuesday for lunch. This is a wonderful Chardonnay from the very famous Chateau Montelena. Exactly 40 vintages later, I could see how it won the Judgment of Paris wine competition, with it's 1973 vintage. Full bodied with medium plus acidity. Showing lemons, apples, pears, melons, light tropical fruits, herbs, cedar, light vanilla, spices, light earth and black pepper. Long finish with limes and light almonds. This 9 year old still feels very young, with lots of complexity and a soft mouthfeel. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Has potential to become a 95+ point wine. Good right out of the bottle, and a great sipping wine. Showing great balance, so there is no need for food here. Elegant and rich. Fruit forward, powerful and exciting. I paired it with a Caesar salad with blackened Mahi. Great lunch. Aged in (10% new) French Oak barrels for 10 months. 13.8% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $65.
