Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2012

$89.99

One of the top-rated Chateauneufs from the 2011 vintage - extremely limited.  96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:  "What I think might end up being the best Beaucastel since the 1990 or 2001, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape offers a full-bodied, decadent style to go with awesome black and blue fruits, garrigue, licorice, crushed flowers and violets. The purity here is truly something, and it has fabulous mid-palate concentration, building tannin and massive texture. Given all of the fruit and texture here, it will no doubt drink well in its youth, but it should still be alive and kicking after two decades as well... ...One of the standout tasting while I working in the southern Rhône, the Perrin family, now largely under the helm of Thomas, Marc, Pierre, and Mathieu, continues to produce some of the top wines, at numerous price points, in the southern Rhône. Looking at this set of releases, the 2012s are incredibly strong,"

From 375ml. A very good Rhone producer visited in 2015. At pop & pour, the fruits almost had a mid berry bubble gum character. That toned down almost immediately. Fruits are ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, baked plums, raspberries, dark cherries, juicy strawberries, chocolate bar to fudge, grilled, smoked meats, black pepper, dark spice, nutmeg, clove, iron pan, black tea, a touch of rubber toy, slight tarriness, dry herbs, roasted chestnuts, tobacco leaf, dry crushed rocks, dry top soil, hints of mint, dark, red flowers, violet’s, nice acidity with a well balanced-structured, stiffly tensioned with a lush finish that lasts 90 seconds and lands on earthiness & spice. Plenty of life left in this 2012, even in 375ml.

Has a bit of that animal that beaucastel is so well known for lots of mixed berry fruit, wild flowes and herbs still very youthful the 2001 is showing a bit of age some dried meats and an array of dried flowers maybe starting its second stage in life secondary flavors the soils becoming more apparent truffle forest floor after the rains tobacco leaves. These two vintages are similar
