Château Clinet Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

$155

100 Points - top Bordeaux                                        A rare 98-point Bordeaux from the heralded 2016 vintage. Extremely limited. 99 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasted on four separate occasions, the 2016 Château Clinet is another brilliant wine from this estate. Showing slightly more freshness and purity than the 2015, its saturated purple color is followed by a thrilling array of crème de cassis, graphite, ground herbs, and a terrific sense of minerality. Deep, full-bodied, with building tannins, and a magical sense of purity and elegance paired with real density and depth, it needs short term cellaring and will keep for three decades. " 98 Points Robert Parker: "The 2016 Clinet is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that was picked from 22 September for the young vines, the older vines picked 1 and 2 October, finishing with the Cabernet Sauvignon the following day. It was cropped at 49 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 70% new oak and the remainder in second-fill barrels. It has 14.15% alcohol and a record-breaking 94 IPT. It has a very linear bouquet, quite strict and intense with a light iodine and marine scent merging with the black fruit. This is a more "aristocratic" nose for Clinet, sophisticated and one of the most nuanced I have encountered. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin that forms the foundation of a more masculine Clinet, complex and focused with a subtle spiciness coming through on the finish, which fans out with confidence and leaves a disarming, saline tang in the mouth. Yes, this is a magnificent Clinet, cool and mineral-soaked, both cerebral and lip-smackingly delicious."

Beautiful color of dark ruby with a wide reddish rim. Elegant nose of blueberries, plums, cooked cherries, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, black pepper, eucalyptus, licorice, herbs and Mediterranean spices. Medium plus in body and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cherries, light oak, spices, dark chocolates, light mint, coffee, peppercorn, licorice, herbs, light earth and black tea. Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Merlot from the great 2016 vintage in Pomerol. Nicely balanced and fruit forward. Still young and restrained, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but drinking so well already. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Has good potential to become a 94+ point wine. Rich and chewy. Complex, entertaining and good by itself as a sipping wine. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 16 months in (70% new) French Oak barrels. 14% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $150.
