Chappellet Signature Donn Chappellet Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

$69.99

96+ Points  Parker                       It's tough to make a case for a better Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at this price point.  The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been Chappellet's flagship wine for more than four decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley. Location on Pritchard Hill is everything as the neighbors of this property include Colgin and Bryant Family. The wine has a phenomenally dense core of blueberry and cassis fruit accented by that dusty, roasted earth component, and the tannin and acidity to serve it well in the cellar. previous vintage 96+ Points Robert Parker: "The Cabernet Sauvignon Signature has a very deep garnet-purple color and opens with wonderfully expressive notes of warm cassis, baked plums, black raspberries and kirsch with suggestions of underbrush, lilacs and chocolate box. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals layers of red and black berries with stunning freshness and an approachable, grainy texture, finishing long and earthy."

50th anniversary! Way to go Chappellet! Super tight, but not tannic. On the 2nd night it was giving dark fruit and herbs. I suspect a few years will reward well.

Blackberry, turmeric and caramel syrup on the nose. Really juicy upfront, and it rolls across the entire palate. Pomegranate and kiwi notes. Finishes with nice acidity with medium+ tannins. Playful wine, mild enough to relax with, but surprising enough to appreciate and think about.

Not as good I thought it would be. Needs some years and makes you need water after each drink.

Light cedar on the nose. Strong berries up from with a heavy tannin finish. Not the best, could get better with age.

2017 is a bit young, but ready to drink. After a few more years this wine will be very fine.

Remarkable given its youth. Powerful fragrance. Tannins surprisingly calm after some air. Great promise for wonderful aging. May 2020.

A house favorite! I wish I could save one for 15 years to get the most out of it but I always drink them.
