Chappellet Signature Donn Chappellet Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

$64.99

It's tough to make a case for a better Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at this price point.  The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been Chappellet's flagship wine for more than four decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley. Location on Pritchard Hill is everything as the neighbors of this property include Colgin and Bryant Family. The wine has a phenomenally dense core of blueberry and cassis fruit accented by that dusty, roasted earth component, and the tannin and acidity to serve it well in the cellar. previous vintage 96 Points Robert Parker:  "The Cabernet Sauvignon Signature from Chappellet, a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, is a stunner. Moreover, it’s a pretty realistic value for a top-notch Cabernet from California. Of course, it’s a great vintage and they’ve nailed it. Deep ruby/purple color, notes of blueberry, blackberry, with cassis, camphor and spring flowers, the wine is full-bodied, powerful (14.8% natural alcohol), layered with supple tannins and a long, long finish. This wine can be drunk now, or cellared for 25 or more years

Founded by Donn and Molly Chappelet in 1967 on renowned Pritchard Hill. A blend of 76% Cab Sauv, 9% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec, 5% Cab Franc & 4% Merlot. Deep Ruby with purple edges, aromas of dark berry fruits, cedar, cacao and gentle sweet herbs. On the palate rich flavors of blackberry and currants with sweet oak and herbs with a great mouthfeel. Soft fine tannins, lingering ending with fruit and gentle oak. Will improve but great now!

Just so rich, loamy, smooth. 85% dark chocolate. Very developed and resolved given its youth. Phenomenal.

Here it is hump day and I wanted to enjoy a nice Cabernet. Colder weather is setting in and this 2014 Chappellet Signature Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon does not disappoint. The blend for this vintage is 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Merlot delicious! On the nose is very expressive dark luscious fruit, black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, strawberry, chocolate, leather, sweet oak and dusty soil. On the palate the dark fruit shows through with black raspberry, black cherry, black currant, green bell pepper, black pepper, clove and graphite. We have a full bodied wine here and a velvety smooth mouth feel with a medium + electric acidity and medium + mouth gripping tannins that leads to a long pleasing finish. A beautiful wine that fits the bill to lead into the weekend. Have a great rest of the week and be safe. Nostrovia!

One nose, creamy, ruby, dark and mid fruits, big red florals, violets with distinct strawberries & raspberries rounded things out. The palate has creamy dark fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries & raspberries. Liquid violets, soft, dusty, big tannin structure, dry black earth, crushed dry rocks, leather, touch of cola, dry red florals, mint and touch of herbs. The finish is lean, dry, earthy with good acidity. Wine needs 10 years before I'd open a bottle. Photo tour of; Chappellet vineyard, tastings area, estate building and barrel room. Phillip Corallo-Titu is their Winemaker since 1990.

Enjoyed this youngster last night.. new '14 bottling and though it needs a lot of time, it showed beautifully of things to come. Despite high-ish alcohol, this is not your new-age fruit bomb Napa cab - it is loaded with more savory roasted herb notes as well as oldschool Napa cedar and some sweet fruit on the finish. A great effort and shows well now, but would definitely be better with approx. 5 more years to even out a bit.

Drank this one from a Methuselah bottle which was a treat. Darker and bolder but earthy notes of mushroom and forest floor.
