Cervantes Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

$199.99

New boutique Cabernet from Cervantes and winemaker Andy Erickson! Limited. 94 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Ripe blue fruit, savory herbs, and a touch of lavender and sagebrush all emerge from the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, a medium to full-bodied, charming, layered, ripe 2021 that's already drinking nicely. It should keep for a decade. 92 Points Robert Parker:  "Cervantes's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec and 6% Petite Sirah. All sourced from the family's Pope Valley ranch, it's slightly herbal—the nose includes lots of bay leaf and sage—but also boasts ripe cherries and cassis. In the mouth, it's full-bodied, dusty and tannic, perhaps a bit rustic and less silky in style compared to many of Andy Erickson's wines, but it is a genuine, robust expression of one of Napa's outlying areas...Winemaking consultant Andy Erickson has been working with this Pope Valley estate since 2013. The 1,100-acre property was purchased by Xavier Cervantes—a native of Mexico City—in 2012, at which time it had 35 acres of vines. That's since been expanded to encompass 90 acres, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo and Sauvignon Blanc. Located in northeastern Napa County, Pope Valley's climate is characterized by a large diurnal shift, with a growing season marked by cool nights and hot days." It has been called Napa Valleyʼs last frontier. Just over the peak of Howell Mountain, alongside Pritchard Hill, is a place less-traveled yet full of promise. Here, the adventurous Cervantes family pairs with a renowned team, including winemaker Andy Erickson of Screaming Eagle Fame. This amazing 1,100 acre ranch marks the highest profile project for Andy Erickson and Xavier Cervantes where they are growing text book Napa Valley hill side wines.
