New release New release from Caymus! Limited. Chuck Wagner and his winemakers promised themselves "a new wine bearing the Caymus name would have to be great - or, it would not be bottled". previous vintage 93 Points Wine Spectator: "Dark and plush, this combines structure with polish, offering notes of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate, grilled herb and toasty spice that linger toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2025." Winemaker Chuck Wager: "A velvety purple with ruby-red highlights, the 2016 vintage of Grand Durif features an abundant one of dark plums and baked blueberries, woven with scents of lavender, white rose petals, sweet smoke and brown spice. Entry on the palate is smooth, yielding to a pop of high, luxurious tannins that then sneak back, revealing lush fruit flavors of dark berry cobbler. What gives this wine its singular character are the tannins - strong yet supple, pronounced while being strikingly soft. The finish is long, with warm, evocative notes of unsweetened cocoa. Still quite young, this vintage can be enjoyed now and also has tremendous aging potential." ~ Chuck Wagner

Deep purple in color with a short purple rim. Sweet and very fruity on the nose. Full-bodied and bold with medium minus acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate and very fruity, with nice complexity. Showing blackberries, cooked prunes, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, dried figs, raisins, chocolates, light earth, bitter herbs and light barnyard. Sweet finish with fine grained tannins. This 9 year old Petite Sirah from California is enjoyable by itself or with food. Elegant and smooth. Fruit forward and robust. Very much in your face kind of wine, although, I expected it to calm down by now. Feels more like a California Syrah at this point. 14.6% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $60.

Inky in color with a short reddish rim. Strong Nose with black fruits, cedar vanilla, chocolates, raisins, cooked cherries, Indian spices, peppercorn, tobacco leaf and light smoke. Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with alcohol infused cherries, black plums, blackberries, cedar, vanilla, spices, dried fruits, espresso, cola, light herbs, chocolates and peppercorn. Long, tangy finish with fine grained tannins and cherries. This 8-year-old Petite Sirah from California is really delicious now. Showing great complexity on the nose and palate. Big, bold and extracted. Rich and fruit forward. Peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely over the next few years. I really enjoyed how complex it has become in the last few years since I last had it. Still powerful, and good right out of the bottle. A good sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak. 14.6% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $55.

Holy moly, this is a mocha bomb! Cocoa and spice dominate, but are offset by deep dark fruits, spice and balanced tannins. Wonderful, but not for the faint of heart!
