Caymus Vineyards Suisun Valley Grand Durif 2015

$59.99

New release from Caymus! Limited. "Our Grand Durif features deep, majestic purple, with a nose of blueberries, wet earth and saddle leather. The initial impression on the palate is broad, smooth, and weighty, then springs into hear with rich and harmonious tannins. The key notes of this wine are the lush textural tannins that push the limits on arrogance yet also display friendly supple qualities. It's truly difficult to explain its singluar style - firm structure yes super-abundant textual softness. Oak plays a significant role in providing a vanilla character. Tis wine can be enjoyed now, though it is still quite a baby. Although I find myself drinking it now, I believe it had tremendous aging potential as well." - Chuck Wagner

Dark purple in color with a short purple rim. Great fruity nose with black currants, blackberries, cherries, figs, licorice, earth, raisins, vanilla, sweet oak, spices, chocolates, mocha, coffee and cinnamon. Full bodied, bold and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice cloves, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, earth, light vegetables and black pepper. Long finish with round tannins. A great Petite Sirah from the house of the Wagner family. Very fruity and enjoyable by itself or with food. Needs a couple of hours to open up properly and show some tannins, but yummy right out of the bottle. Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Big bold and beautiful. Would benefit from another few years, to mature properly, and get more complex. Easy drinking so watch out. I paired it with small appetizers. 14.8% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $60.

Full bodied nice quality cab. My brother in-law opened it before we had crab legs. Swing and a miss but this would pair nicely with some big beef.
