Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 (1500ml)

$325

Rare MAGNUMS of Caymus' flagship Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon.  One of Napa Valley's Classic Cabs. previous vintage 95 Points Robert Parker:  "A brilliant wine, and one of the stars of the vintage, the Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection boasts aromas of blueberry pie, blackberries, cassis and white flowers. This full-bodied, velvety textured, delicious 2011 is already drinking well, and should continue to do so for 10-12 years. It is a terrific success for the vintage...Though the Wagner family is not quite the pioneer that Louis Martini, Charles Krug, Beaulieu Private Reserve, Ridge Vineyards and a few others are, they have long farmed and made the wines at Caymus Vineyards." 97 Points Wine Enthusiast:  "So delicious now, you can hardly keep your hands off it.  Blackberry tart, ripe blueberry, cassis, milk chocolate, licorice and sweet, smoky cedar flavors flood the mouth, dramaticaly huge and memorable, and lasting long into the finish.  The tannins are obvious, but sweetly ripe and soft.  A brilliant evocation of Napa Cabernet, shows the class and potency this bottling has exhibited for many years, and bleieve it or not, the price is a relative bargain these days.  Drink now through 2020."

Super offering in an off year. Slightly less fruit allows secondary aromas and pyrazine to show along with the oak. More subdued than the 2010 but my favorite between the two.

Always solid with ripe fruit, velvet smooth tannins and almost imperceptible acidity.

Typical Caymus extraction and flavors. Almost makes you think you're drinking some Syrah-infused Cab. I "love to hate" this style but tasted blind I'll stick with my honest rating.

There is some serious RS here and a lot of super ripe (even raisinated) fruit here, but it sure does go down easily

Big, fruity, jammy. Showing some character that will develop. Actually liked it much then I thought I would.
