Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

$269

95 Points                                   One of Napa Valley's Classic Cabernets. Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon is the only wine in the world twice honored as "Wine of the Year" by Wine Spectator Magazine. Limited. 95 Points Wine Spectator:  "This delivers almost unbridled plum sauce, blackberry preserves and melted licorice flavors, but keeps a smoldering edge for form while picking up alluring black tea and incense notes on the broad finish. There’s a long echo of chocolate adding to this hedonist’s delight. Drink now through 2032."

Dark garnet red with a ruby hue. Aged characteristics on the nose with some tobacco leaves, anise, damp leaves and dark berries. Medium tannins (6/10) and full bodied. Quite earthy on the palate with some dried cherries, cigar box and some light leather. Long finish with solid acidity. Drink till 2023.

Just starting to be interesting, should have waited 5 more years.

Very lush, layered black fruit, chewy tannins. Too extracted for my taste. Undeniable American steak house Cabernet Sauvignon.

Birthday celebration for @Cody Uzzel at Lucio’s with a bunch of friends. All wines (except sparklers) tasted blind. . As a PnP I thought this would have presented in a more closed fashion but it actually did nicely. First time trying the ‘08 and it seemed to me that it lacked some of the more iconic notes I’ve observed in both younger and older vintages. However, I chalk that up to (a) having an obliterated palate, and (b) drinking this without sufficient time to blow off all of its funk and sort itself out. Nonetheless it still managed to open up nicely at the table and was fun to explore as it evolved.
