Cavus Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Small-production Dave Phinney cab!     Winemaker Dave Phinney, well known for crafting The Prisoner and Mercury Head Cabernet, has done it again with a small-production Napa Cabernet for Cavus, a family run vineyard nestled in the hillside of the Stag’s Leap appellation. Cavus is a family run vineyard nestled in the hillside of the Stag’s Leap appellation in Napa Valley, neighboring the famed Shafer Hillside vineyard. Owner Darryl Browman named the winery for the snow “cave” he and a few friends built to survive the night when trapped on a mountain in Argentina.  He has certainly gone all out with Cavus, hiring winemaker extraordinaire Dave Phinney, and vineyard manager Jim Barbour. Jim is one of the best viticulturists there is having previously worked with Hundred Acre, Grace Family, Checkerboard, Gandona Estate, Pride, Celia Welch, Philippe Melka, Thomas Brown, Heidi Barrett, Andy Erickson, and many more.  This is the type of wine you would expect from this All-Star team: Rich, concentrated, powerful, and balanced. This wine squares you up with juicy cassis and blackberry then finishes with soft supple and ever so delicious tannins. This wine is rarely found outside the winery, lucky for you we are on the inside.
