Caterwaul North Coast Chardonnay 2023

                                             Inaugural Sonoma Valley Cabernet release from Caterwaul,  a new small-production label from superstar winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and Matt Hardin. Limited. Matt Hardin & Thomas Rivers Brown: "We were given an opportunity to create this wine for the trade only. Not available for purchase. While North Coast may not be as desirable a designation as the dominant Napa Valley fruit that comprises this blend, it is a descriptive indicator of the complexity of our first edition of Caterwaul Chardonnay. Barrel-fermented and aged on lees for 18 months, early oak integration helps cement the structure of a multifaceted wine. Brilliant medium-straw in the glass, with notes of honeysuckle, white peach and lemon zest. The backbone of Mt. Veeder Chardonnay gives heft to the mouthfeel, while more northerly vineyards lock in the freshness in every sip. Seemingly something for everyone in this wine. 30% new Latour oak barrels frame the lasting finish, mingling a light toast with crisp citrus." ...Caterwaul is a new collaboration between superstar winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and Matt Hardin from Barbour Vineyard Management. Started in 2014, they produce a Napa Valley Cabernet from Matt’s estate vineyard in Pope Valley and a Regusci Vineyard release from Stags Leap. As Cabernet goes from Napa Valley, these are incredible values that should be snatched up by readers. This is the first Chardonnay they have ever produced only available through us."
