Castello di Ama Gran Selezione San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2010

$49.99

A fantastic new Chiantico Classico from one of Italy's best producers, and an amazing buy for the price. Limited. 95 Points Wine Spectator:  "Offers a combination of power and elegance, with a racy feel. Wild cherry, strawberry, rose and leafy, woodsy flavors permeate this driving red. The finish is long, but this needs time to shed the tannins. Well-defined from start to finish. Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera and Merlot. Best from 2017 through 2030. From Italy." 95 Points Decanter:  "Rich, creamy cherry nose, with red fruits to perk it up. Suave, velvety and very concentrated.  Luxurious but spicy and lively on the finish, with super balance and length. Drink 2015‐2025."

Made detailed notes and then lost them....must be an over 70’s thing. This wine was #6 in the 2014 Wine Spectator Top 100. Not your typical Chianti Classico with a small 7% of Merlot and 10% Malvasia Nera with small oak maturation. The first of 5. Some cherry/ red fruited notes. Savoury dry tannins. I prefer the more traditional style of CC.

This was Wine Spectators #6 wine for 2014. Don't agree with such a high rating. A very good Chianti Classico nonetheless with cherry and earthy notes. Light to medium bodied with bitter tannins still making their presence felt.
