Carlisle Winery & Vineyards Papera Ranch Zinfandel 2015

$46.99

93 Points                             Limited new Zinfandel from Carlisle. 94 Points Robert Parker:  "A killer effort is the 2015 Zinfandel Papera Ranch, from a vineyard planted in 1934, and made from 96% Zinfandel and 4% Carignan. This is a good-sized wine, given its 15.4% alcohol, but like all of Mike Officer’s wines, the alcohol never shows. Moreover, he clearly gives the fruit plenty of attention so that it can strut its ripeness and full-bodied character, given the fact that he rarely uses more than 20-25% new French oak, and of course, the wines are bottled with no clarification by fining or filtering. This should drink well for up to a decade or more... ...A great success story, Mike Officer’s Carlisle Winery continues to not only protect heritage old-vine sites in Northern California, but to also turn out a bevy of realistically priced, delicious, consumer-friendly wines, primarily from Zinfandel, although Officer can also turn a trick or two with Grenache, Petite Sirah and Syrah."

Nice. Plenty of spice, solid fruit.

The wine, while generally delicious, ebbed and flowed quiet a bit. At certain moments it was very delicious with perfect balance of berry fruit and acidity, and at many other moments it was closed off or too tannic. This was enjoyed over a 24 hour window too.

I've gotten my dad on these since he prefers Zins. He was partial to Elyse Morisoli. I haven't figured out which of Carlisle offerings matches best to that but if you have an opinion can you let me know?
