Carlisle Winery & Vineyards Carlisle Vineyard Zinfandel 2015

$47.99

94 Points                             Limited new Zinfandel from Carlisle. 93 Points Robert Parker:  "The 2015 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is 88% Zinfandel and 12% mixed black varieties as well as a handful of white varieties such as Malvasia and Muscat. This is another killer wine, as it is always one of the top wines in his extensive and impressive portfolio. The alcohol is 15.3%, but that’s a minor component to this big, juicy, succulent, in-your-face, dramatic Zinfandel that boasts raspberry, black cherry, strawberry, licorice, tar, earth and roasted Provençal herbs. It is spicy and elegant, but at the same time, heady, rich and generously endowed. Drink it over the next 7-10 years.... ... great success story, Mike Officer’s Carlisle Winery continues to not only protect heritage old-vine sites in Northern California, but to also turn out a bevy of realistically priced, delicious, consumer-friendly wines, primarily from Zinfandel, although Officer can also turn a trick or two with Grenache, Petite Sirah and Syrah."

The delectable review below is spot on. A great young Carlisle Vineyard built on a firm backbone, this will be one to improve for a number of years. As always this includes a number of interplanted and cofermented varietals for added depth and color. A beautiful wine year in and year out, showing off both the best of Zinfandel and of Russian River.

A gorgeous wine, the 2015 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is bright and punchy, with plenty of red cherry, raspberry and floral notes pushed forward. Silky and racy in the glass, this mid-weight Zinfandel is impeccable. The Carlisle is super-finessed in 2015. As usual, the Carlisle is predominantly Zinfandel, with about 12% mixed white and black grapes (a total of 40 varieties), all co-fermented. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2018)

Not as open as the 14s were in their youth. 15 is more structured where 14 was more plush. The petit sirah seems to show more in this vintage as black fruits and spice dominate. Drinks well with a couple hour decant, but this one is built for age.

Like a steak tartare Zin: Medium bodied, a little bite, supple but with a nice full mouth. Smooth and with a surprisingly floral nose; black rose, black currant and some unripe cherry. Medium alcohol. Not what I’d normally drink but pleasant and drinkable.

Dark, plush and fruit forward Zin that’s as tight as it is bold. Spice, pepper, and a little funk.
