Calera Wine Company Central Coast Pinot Noir 2015

$26.99

One of the best buys in California pinot noir we've found! 92 Points Robert Parker:  "Readers looking for a classic, incredibly well made Pinot Noir to buy by the case should look no further than Josh's Pinot Noir from the Central Coast AVA. Supple, sexy, seamless and elegant, with classic Calera notes of raspberries, mulled cherries, spice and dried soil, it has no hard edges, a core of sweet fruit and a beautiful finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. I'm sure it will keep for 4-5 years (probably longer), but there's no need to delay gratification. Don't miss this fabulous effort and bravo to the Calera team for delivering this level of quality at the price.... Pulling from his estate vineyards located east of Monterey, in San Benito County and the Mount Harlan AVA, winemaker Josh Jenson can seemingly do no wrong. He produces beautiful whites and reds that are singular and packed with flavor." 91 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous):  "The 2014 Pinot Noir (Central Coast) is both impeccable and absolutely delicious. Sweet, floral and open-knit, the Central Coast is also a fabulous introduction to the Calera house style. Beautifully perfumed and gracious, the 2014 offers striking aromatics and plenty of bright fruit to match its mid-weight, chiseled personality."

Pretty good for a CA Pinot, but a little too much fruit and heat for me. Still, it was good enough to make me wonder why I don’t drink Pinot more often, and it paired quite well with pork tenderloin.

Looks very young, having the appearance of clear and pale ruby color. On the nose, it is clean with medium intensity. Being able to smell flavor of strawberry jam, smokiness, light plum, mushroom, floral, light pepper. On the palate, there is no sweetness, medium to high acid, very low tannin, strong alcohol, tasted light overall. Medium to long finish with taste of fig at the end. Is a good wine. The fly in the ointment is the lack of tannin, feeling more like a juice.

Reminds me of a summer wine Pinot, evening by the pool style. Nice watering acidity and cherry, pomegranate, and very light olive. As it settles it gets a little sweeter and some floral notes really stand out.

Full bodied. To say the least. Drank this with absolutely nothing to go with it and I’m still smiling.

Had at Norman’s. Tastes expensive. Norman said it is highly recommended and is only $22
