One of the best "under the radar" Napa Cabernets we've discovered. Randle Johnson has been working in Napa Valley for 35 years, and is currently a winemaker at Hess Collection. Calafia Cellars is the personal brand of Randle and his wife MaryLee. Made from their own estate grapes blended with small quantities of grapes from other vineyards, Randle uses his extensive experience and knowledge to create a fine example of what Napa Valley, and St. Helena in particular, have to offer. A tiny 275 cases were produced. This wine shows deep and concentrated aromas of blackberry, licorice and cassis, with a second layer of pepper, clove, and allspice. Flavors follow through with dark chocolate, and spice with slight nuances of oak. This wine exhibits depth, concentration, fine grain tannins and is seamless, from flavors through the long rich finish. Very elegant for current drinking, it will also age gracefully. 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petite Sirah, 14% Petit Verdot, 9 % Malbec. Enjoy!
