Cakebread Cabernet - One of Napa's Valley's Classic Cabs and the 2012 is one of the best ever. Fragrant boysenberry, blackberry, dark cherry, cassis and Mission fig aromas comprise the fresh, fruitful nose of the Cakebread Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The first sip of the wine reveals a big, boldly structured Cabernet with deeply concentrated black fruit flavors and intriguing dusty, loamy and mineral-y tones that add wonderful dimension and complexity. Boasting an undercurrent of soft, plush fruit that will emerge further with aging, this sophisticated, yet approachable Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will reward another 5-7 years’ cellaring. Robert Parker: "..among the finest “regular” Cabernet Sauvignons I have tasted from Cakebread.

Got this magnum myself at Cakebread cellars about 7 years ago. Great to finally open it for an Xmas party. Full bodied, enjoy it, but not “omg”.

Classic Napa. Fruit forward and smooth. Cassis. And good structure.

As I opened a bottle of their 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 18 months in French oak (54% new), I see a deep ruby red with focused aromas of black fruit and complex spice. The palate shows focused sweet ripe dark fruit, black currants and black raspberry, with savory oak, leather and cacao. The wine is well balanced, nicely developed round tannins, great structure for getting better in a few years. This is an approachable wine, perfect to drink now as well as for future aging, but why wait?

1hr+ decant. Dark red color with purple hues. Dark cherries, plums, and a hint of chocolate on the nose. Wine was restrained with subtle sweetness and a nice texture. Not sure if it was in a weird phase or slipping past prime drinking.

Dark robe with plums, tobacco and herbs notes. Really good cab that is not overdone and has lots of charm. Probably better in 4 or 5 years but very drinkable already.
