Cain Vineyards NV15 Cain Cuvée Red Blend NV

$49.99

Cain Cuvee NV15 is an outstanding Cabernet blend of different vintages from Napa' Spring Mountain producer Cain. Limited! People ask, why blend vintages? We ask, why not? The benefits of blending vintages can work similarly to blending varieties. A wine with layers of complexity, wrapped around a balanced and flowing core is our quest. We also want a wine with individuality, a specific personality, so we have found that working with just two vintages is best. Today, with the exception of Champagne, the blending of vintages has been nearly forgotten and lost, except with Cain Cuvée. Though the vineyards are the same, no two vintages are ever identical. Certainly a thoughtful blend of two vintages will always be more balanced, more complex, and more interesting than either could be by itself. The whole principle of the Cain Cuvée project is to deliver wines that you can take seriously, and also that you can enjoy with or without a special occasion. Even so, if you have a bottle or two left, the NV15 will easily run for another decade.

Big aroma of plums and smoke. Pours deep deep inky dark opaque. Initial dryness of serious plums and smokiness with a hint of raspberries. Then a dry dry dry tannic finish.

Every year. Every single year I buy a few of these because they’re probably the best deal in California and one of the best wines around. Dark cherry red with light plum notes in the glass. On the nose there’s every bit of forest floor funk that you never knew you wanted. Beautiful fruit that never ends and fresh tobacco. This wine is a perfect litmus test for people. Sweet or savory. Delicate or a rip roaring beast? It’s all that and more. I honestly believe the folks at Cain go into these cuvees on a mission to be unlike anything else out there. There is nothing standard here. No typical Napa stuff that everyone seems to love. Very reminiscent of the NV14, there’s plenty of plums and dried cranberries to go along with the smoke, pencil lead, and Newport’s on the palate. Go get yourself a bunch of these and enjoy them. They can be held for years to come, but honestly, that’s pretty hard to do.
