Cain Vineyard & Winery Cain Concept The Benchland Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

$89.99

Cain Concept is an outstanding Cabernet blend from Napa' Spring Mountain producer of the venerable Cain Five and sourced from the same vineyards. Limited! 95 Points James Suckling": "Extremely floral and ripe with rosemary and dark fruit. Fresh fruit too, of course. Full body, round tannins and fruity and long finish. Reserved and refined. Wonderful clarity. Better in 2018 but why wait?" In the “Cain Way,” small quantities of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot are blended with Cabernet Sauvignon to build complexity, to add nuance, articulate the structure, and add length to the finish of the wine.  Fans of Silver Oak and Cakebread Cabernet will truly enjoy this wine. The 2012 Cain Concept has a long life ahead of it. It has a robe of deep, dark purple and the scent of cassis and cocoa. Its firm structure and refined tannins signal a long life. You can savor this wine over a long evening, or over two evenings and you’ll just begin to get to know it. Decant it and it will begin to tell its story." 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc."

No doubt about it Napa cab. Needed 3 hours of air to hit its stride. Initially very disjointed with a forest/pepper component and this odd sweetness. Then it seemed to integrate. I get a bunch of forest, vegetable garden, maybe even paprika, but very herbal. There is fruit with figs, plum, dark berry, mint. Overall very nice. Update on day 2: outstanding. Hitting on all cylinders with a ton of herbs, tart and dried fruit, great tannin, and spice. I’d rate 95 on day two.

Excellent. Rates right up there with the two other Spring Mountain Cabs that I have had.

Deep, deep garnet with light purple flecks. A classic dusty Napa nose consisting of ripe blackberries, cherries, and menthol. Dusty herbs and warm spices. A touch of smoke and stewed plums. Highly expressive. 73/16/7/4 CS/ME/PV/MB from selected premium vineyards from Rutherford, Atlas Peak, and Carneros. Honestly, what else do you need to know? We all know how Cain gets down at this point. Nothing but beautifully crafted wines. Ripe and excessively smooth, there’s enough complexity here to keep you pondering the absurdities of life for hours. Full bodied and insanely graceful, there’s nothing here not to love. Smooth and elegant entry with plums and smoked tobacco up front. So much juicy red fruit and vanilla. Herbs are plentiful along with spice. Long sumptuous finish. Drinking nicely now but still has miles to go. Really beautiful stuff.

2/2021. Nice bold Cab (73%) from Napa Valley. Lingered on the palate and paired well with bone in filet at Hall’s Chophouse Columbia.
