Booker Vineyard My Favorite Neighbor Syrah Blend 2016

$79.99

97 pts - rare                                  New release from Paso cult producer Booker Vineyards. As always, limited. 97 Points Jeb Dunnuck:  "Still in barrel, the Cabernet Sauvignon dominated 2016 My Favorite Neighbor offers smokin’ notes of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, licorice, smoke tobacco, and hints of violets. With full-bodied r still fresh, chalky, moderately tannic, elegant and lengthy red." Robert Parker: "As I've commented in the past, the wines from Eric Jensen at Booker are some of the most impressive releases coming out of California. While in the past, they relied on pure fruit and texture to impress, today they possess layered, elegant and complex characters paired with serious depth, richness and structure. While 2013 -2015 are all great vintages at this estate, the 2014s have more noticeable tannic grip and really deserve 2-3 years or more of cellaring."

Mind-blowing! Smokey nose, complimented with strawberry jam. On the palate, this wine displays depth and presence, without being overweight or brash. Lovely dark-fruit profile, enhanced by rugged tannins and bright acidity. Intense and focused. Stunning now, but will further benefit from short-term cellaring. just ordered another 6 pack, it’s that strong. Very cool label, too.

Totally dig it. Complex yet light on its feet. Already good- I think this will be a drink when young wine. Great stuff.

Bold wine up to the task for steak night. Big red fruits and a bit of old world dust on the finish. Very nice vintage.

Still as incredible as the first time i drank this. Black fruit and smoked chocolate on the pallet. Long finish with even keeled tannins. A hint of activity. Big and structured

Interesting young wine. Some hedonistic and unbridled qualities, but chocolate covered cherries made an appearance as well. Think this could really be something in 4-5 years. If you have a few, try one now, otherwise wait a bit - seems like it may be in its teenage years.

Jeb 97 for 80 bucks. Dense dark blackberry fruit, mineral notes. Not big tannins on the back end. At first thought this was going to need a bit of bottle age, but it’s drinking pretty good at this young stage. 94+ for now.

New world Bordeaux that drinks amazingly in its youth. Full fruit on the fore pallet, and smooth tannins-less finish. Amazing juice.
