Booker Vineyard My Favorite Neighbor Syrah Blend 2015

$79.99

97 pts - rare                                  New release from Paso cult producer Booker Vineyards. As always, limited. 99+ Points Robert Parker:  "Showing the potential of the Bordeaux varieties in these limestone soils on the west side of Paso Robles, the 2015 My Favorite Neighbor Proprietary Blend is a smokin' blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Petit Verdot that's aged all in French oak. Locked and loaded, with tons of jammy blackberry fruits, creme de cassis, sweet oak, violets and chalky minerality, this tour de force is full-bodied, incredibly rich and structured. Forget it for 2-3 years and drink over the following 15-20 years... ...As I've commented in the past, the wines from Eric Jensen at Booker are some of the most impressive releases coming out of California. While in the past, they relied on pure fruit and texture to impress, today they possess layered, elegant and complex characters paired with serious depth, richness and structure. While 2013 -2015 are all great vintages at this estate, the 2014s have more noticeable tannic grip and really deserve 2-3 years or more of cellaring.

Interesting wine from Pass Robles very highly regarded and for good reason. 70% cab and 30% petit verdot. Inky yet smooth after it opens up.

Booker Unique smell compared to the rest. Tea leaves but sweet? Taste is sweet and fruity. Much too fruit forward. Some caramel. 8.6 $80

Another great wine from Paso Robles with fantastic fragrance and a flavour profile to rival some Napa big boys which sell for 2,3 even 4 times the price. Fantastic aromas straight out of the bottle with blackberry and black currant combined with vanilla, oak and violet perfume. Taste develops by the minute in the decanter and early dry minerality smooths into a long and rich finish. Really enjoyable now and no doubt will get better and better. Note: there is no Syrah in this vintage despite the title of the page. 2015 is Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. New high score for me.
