Black Sheep Finds Holus Bolus Sta. Rita Hills Syrah 2016

$32

Another blockbuster from this joint project of Chad Melville, Jim Knight, Sashi Moorman (Stolpman Vineyards) and Peter Hunken . This one is thick and rich with blueberry pie filling aromas and complex notes of pencil lead and spice. Floral characters keep this wine in check, adding their more feminine influence. On the palate this is rich and thick as jam. Full-bodied with spicy tannins and a long finish. No food required. Robert Parker: "This sexy, seductive Syrah exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, forward, evolved aromas of black olives, ground pepper, and sweet black currant liqueur. Good underlying acidity, medium body, and a pure long finish suggest it will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 3-4 years." The Holus Bolus 2016 Syrah is sourced entirely from John Sebastiano Vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills. This wine is a blend of 3 distinct clones of Syrah (Alban, 470 and 383). The wine was fermented with 25% whole clusters and offers up wonderful dark fruit, provencal spice and refreshing acidity. Aged for 14 months in two and three year-old French oak, bottled without fining or filtration. Named the #6 Wine Of The Year by Wine Enthusiast Top 100 list (December 2016) rated 95 Points and Editor’s Choice.
