Beran California Zinfandel 2012

$24.99

Inaugural vintage from Joe Wagner, youngest son of Chuck Wagner, who founded Caymus Vineyards with his parents, Charlie and Lorna Wagner. Joe Wagner's special project aimed at restoring Zinfandel's esteemed position as a consummate California wine by sourcing fruit from multi-generation Zin growers in Sonoma County, Napa Valley, Mendocino County, and the Sierra foothills of Amador County.  The first vintage of this hedonistic offering is loaded with inky fruit, dark chocolate richness, and exotic baking spice notes. It possesses tremendous concentration of pure Zinfandel flavors with blackberry pie filling, vanilla, pipe tobacco, and clove seasonings from the Wagner's signature use of new American oak. This powerhouse is tough to resist now, but will drink very well for 5+ years.  Joe is also the founder of Belle Glos and Meiomi wines, recently voted the #1 wine By the Glass in Wine & Spirits magazine 26th Annual Restaurant Poll!

My first words were "this smells like Meiomi"--lo and behold, it's a Copper Cane production! Sweet and clunky. If I had two words for this: "fucking disgusting."

Can't speak for the rest of the world, but this wine is tasting absolutely delicious tonight. Nice fruit flavor with a nice black cherry flavor. This is an excellent tasting wine. Go for it and let me know if you disagree!

Completely pleasant way to Zin... Less fruit, a bit more oak and finish than most in this range. Lovely for what it is.

Sweet and jammy, not what I’m looking for in a Zinfandel.

Jammy Vamilla tinted greatness from the Golden State. Awesome on the nose, dark mature red fruit notes carry this baby home. Great glass for Thanksgiving leftovers!!
