Belle Glos Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

$54.99

A blockbuster new Pinot from Caymus! Belle Glos is a partnership between Chuck Wagner and his son, winemaker Joseph Wagner. They make Belle Glos Pinot Noir from single vineyards, this one from the Las Alturas Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands. A very rich & complex, fruit-forward stye Pinot that would go as well with steak as it would salmon dishes. The smallest production Belle Glos Pinot available! Get the new release before the ratings come out. Deep ruby red in color with intriguing aromas of sun-warmed blackberries, ripe plums, with hints of black licorice. A complexity of dark berry fruits unfold on the palate; blackberries and bing cherries along with dark chocolate flavors. Vanilla and cedar oak undertones on the mid-palate further enhance the wine. The overall impression is rich with refined tannins, firm acidity and explosive layers of ripe fruit.

Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner is a 4th generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since 1906. Had a bottle on vacation. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot I have come across, almost looks like a Cab) aromas of ripe berries and pepper spice notes. The palate shows rich black fruits, blackberries, plums and black cherries, vanilla, cedar, black pepper and cacao. Rich soft tannins, firm acidity on lingering finish ending with mineral tones. Nice! Give more time in the bottle.

Technically, I detect PN...but not really in the spirit of the grape IMO.

Big smokey black fruit. A fantastic Pinot, well balanced with a lovely finish.

Very nice Pinot. Similar to the Clark & Telegraph Pinot, perhaps a little less fruit forward. Glad I am having it on Christmas Eve - pairs very well with all kinds of foods.

Strong aromas of overripe cherries. Very fruit forward, some earthiness in the finish.
