Bedrock Cellars Montecillo Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

   Bedrock is making some of the finest Zinfandels and heirlooms reds in California today. Rare Cabernet release. 96+ Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Just bottled six weeks ago, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo is a tremendous wine from this site. Waves of dark fruit, gravel, spice, tobacco and dried herbs are all dialed up because of tiny yields that year. Sumptuous and massive, the 2021 is an infant. I wouldn’t dream of touching a bottle for another decade, and ever that may not be enough to soften the huge, imposing tannins. I hope to have a chance to taste it again in the future. It’s a super-classic Sonoma Valley wine. " After taking a year off in 2020 due to wildfire issues, the 2021 is a happy return for Cabernet from this unparalleled vineyard located in the heights of the Moon Mountain District. Planted in the late 1960s and dry-farmed, this is truly one of the great vineyards for Cabernet in California regardless of zip code or address. Like seemingly everywhere in Sonoma, crops were extremely light, so we were only able to make five barrels from this hillside sight. Small berries and loose clusters have made for a concentrated wine filled with room-filling aromatics and concentrated, dark fruit showing the wild character expected of fruit grown at 2200’ feet elevation. This will be a very long-lived wine. We recently opened a vertical of Montecillo going back to our first vintage in 2013; that wine is starting to let off its fireworks, and I expect this effort to follow suit.  Robert Parker:   "...Everybody should recognize the incredible speed at which Morgan Twain-Peterson has built his Bedrock Wine Co. into a world-class performer.
