Beau Vigne Romeo Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

$74.99

94 Points                           Limited new Cabernet from Beau Vigne! 94 Points Robert Parker:  "There are 354 cases of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Romeo, which has 2% Petit Verdot added in. A fabulous nose of creosote, charcoal embers, blackberry and cassis jumps up from this dense purple wine. It displays full body, superlative equilibrium, sweet tannin, a layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel and a terrific finish of close to 40+ seconds. Already delicious, this will continue to evolve handsomely for another 15-20 years..... ...One of my favorite wineries, Beau Vigne’s 10-acre vineyard sits at a high 1,650-foot elevation in the southern Napa Valley, back Soda Canyon Road, overlooking the Pritchard Hill Gap as well as the Stagecoach Vineyard. The AVA for these wines is Atlas Peak, and the soils are all of volcanic origin. The top-notch consulting winemaker is none other than Kirk Venge. The 2014s are terrific, more fruit-forward follow-ups to their magnificent 2013s and dramatic 2012s, as this winery is currently on a qualitative roll."

After visiting a few years ago and picking up a few bottles, I wanted to see how this was showing since many ‘14s are in a great spot right now. This was arguably better at pop and pour than it was an hour in. Very perfumed with sweet baking spices (vanilla, cinnamon) and baked mixed berry pie (lots of sweet blueberries and blackberries). Dusty too with cassis and graphite. In time, it turned more red fruit dominant on the palate alongside sandalwood, cocoa, clay and spiced black cherry liqueur. Rich, smooth but enough structure to keep improving. A friend wanted a juicy, balanced Napa cab and this fit the bill nicely.

Another outstanding offering from Beau Vigne. Nose is flamboyant with maple syrup, sweet oak, coffee and luscious black cherries. On the palette, you're left with the impression that so much flavor has been jammed into the bottle! Tannins are prominent, regal and ripe. Sweet and expansive ending to what is a glorious example. This will evolve to an even better place in time. If you have em In your cellar, leave em be for another two years. Your patience will be rewarded. @Martin G Rivard thank you for the gift my friend.

Found a new decanter, thick glass impossible to break easy to clean & holds entire bottle. I prefer the Juliet over the Romeo. Juliet had a nice plushness to it whereas the Romeo is a little tighter & astringent at this time, plus at only 15.9 abv its a little lite for me. Thanks @Martin G Rivard for allowing me to compare these 2 bottles,
